Est. 1961 — Rebuilt 2023
Our Story
From LeRoy's Bait & Tackle to Gator's Bait Barn — six decades of North Texas fishing history.
The Legacy
A Wylie Institution Since 1961
LeRoy Hoffard opened his bait shop on Highway 78 near Lake Lavon in 1961. For decades it was the first stop for North Texas anglers — minnows, advice, and fishing stories all in one place.

The Legend
Bill the Gator
A baby alligator found along the Trinity River ended up at LeRoy's — and never left. Bill grew to over 8 feet and became the most famous resident in Collin County. People drove from across Texas just to see him.
He's why the barn carries his name.
The Rebuild
Josh Taylor Brings It Back
In 2023, Josh took ownership with one goal: bring it back to life without losing its soul. With a background in construction, he rebuilt the space from the ground up — new tanks, new gear, same Wylie spirit.
